Universal Tower Defense Units Tier List – RELEASE DAY

This Universal Tower Defense Units Tier List is designed to help new and mid-game players understand which units are actually worth chasing, investing resources into, and building teams around. Instead of just ranking units blindly, this guide explains why each unit sits where it does, how they function in real gameplay, and what role they serve in progression.

Keep in mind that Universal Tower Defense heavily rewards synergy, traits, and evolutions, so even lower-tier units can perform well with the right setup. That said, some units clearly stand above the rest.

Universal Tower Defense Units Tier List – RELEASE DAY

Top Tier (Meta-Defining Units)

These units dominate content, scale extremely well, and remain relevant from early game into endgame.

Sunju Wu (Hybrid DPS – Best Overall Unit)

Sunju Wu is widely considered the strongest unit in the game. His ability to summon an army of shadow soldiers that scale off his own damage gives him absurd map control and boss damage. Shadow Domain massively buffs those summons, turning difficult stages into manageable clears. His mana economy and scaling allow him to snowball quickly, making him effective in both solo and group play. If you pull Sunju Wu, he should become your main priority immediately.

Dragon Guy (Hybrid DPS / Control)

Dragon Guy excels due to his freeze, slow, stun, and massive damage amplification during his trance state. While he temporarily exhausts himself after activation, the amount of damage and crowd control he provides beforehand more than compensates. His hybrid targeting and freeze mechanics make him extremely valuable in difficult waves and boss encounters.

Kyito (Meta Ground DPS)

Kyito is often referred to as a “cheat unit” for good reason. His passives scale based on Virtual Realm paths, allowing him to gain absurd damage multipliers, cooldown reduction, crit damage, and debuff immunity. With proper setup, Kyito can carry entire runs almost on his own, especially in Virtual World and Challenge content.

Leouch (Control Support – Top 5 Unit)

Leouch does not deal damage in a traditional way, but his battlefield control is unmatched. He can force enemies to retreat, stop completely, or attack backward, effectively breaking enemy pathing. This level of control trivializes many hard stages and makes him one of the strongest support units in the game, especially when paired with high DPS carries.

Kempachi (Hybrid AoE DPS)

Kempachi shines due to his massive AoE damage and ability to increase damage taken by enemies within his range. While his attack speed is slow, the sheer impact of each attack and the debuff he applies make him devastating when properly supported. He scales extremely well with stats and gear.

High Tier (Very Strong and Reliable Units)

These units are excellent and worth investing in, though slightly less game-breaking than top tier.

Scarlet Maid (Hybrid Support)

Scarlet Maid is one of the most complex and powerful support units in the game. She provides range buffs, cooldown reduction, damage amplification, slows, stuns, and time-based effects that stack over time. Her value increases the longer a stage lasts, making her incredible for bosses and endurance modes.

Sasuke (Stun DPS / Support Hybrid)

Sasuke blurs the line between DPS and support. His frequent stuns, AoE attacks, and chance-based crowd control make him extremely valuable in both story and challenge content. While not a pure hybrid, his utility makes him feel like one.

Law (Ground DPS)

Law is one of the strongest ground-only DPS units. His boss-focused targeting, follow-up attacks, and stun interactions make him reliable for single-target damage. While he lacks AoE dominance, he performs very well in boss stages.

Mid Tier (Situational but Useful)

These units are playable and can perform well with proper traits and team composition, but they are not priorities.

Shanks (Support)

Shanks provides stun immunity while attacking and teamwide damage buffs after killing bosses. While useful, his buffs are conditional and not as impactful as top supports. He works best in coordinated teams.

Ace (Healer / Hybrid)

Ace is one of the better healers, offering burn application and damage scaling. He is especially helpful for beginners who lack sustain options. However, his overall impact is lower compared to meta supports.

Admiral Magma (Hybrid DPS)

Admiral Magma focuses on area denial with magma pools and burn damage. While fun and visually strong, he lacks the raw scaling and control of higher-tier hybrids.

Low Tier (Limited Impact)

These units are generally outclassed and only useful early on or in niche situations.

Mob Psycho (Support / Slow)

Mob Psycho provides slows and confusion effects, but his overall impact is weak compared to other support options. He can help early game but falls off quickly.

Genos (Healer)

Genos has a unique self-stun mechanic that grants free upgrades, but the downtime makes him unreliable. He is usable, but Ace is generally the better healing option.

Shikamaru (Support)

Shikamaru offers limited range scaling and stuns, but his effects are too weak to justify long-term investment.

Football Eagle (Weak Support)

Football Eagle relies heavily on conditional buffs and inconsistent mechanics. He is widely considered one of the weakest units in the game and is not recommended.

Beginner Tier Advice

For new players, focus less on chasing every unit and more on building a balanced team:

• One strong carry (Sunju Wu, Kyito, Dragon Guy if possible)
• One farm unit (Speed Cart is mandatory)
• One strong support (Scarlet Maid, Leouch, or Sasuke)
• One healer if needed

Traits, evolutions, and Virtual World progression matter just as much as raw unit strength.
